For a Day or a Lifetime

For a Day or a Lifetime

Mts & Tunnels

Release Date: April 18, 2015

A joyous collaboration with a “classic northwest folk rock” sound.

The title was taken from the abandoned slogan of my hometown of Bothell, wa. Many of these songs are written in a classic americana form with an emphasis on male and female vocal harmonies and yearning lyrics of love and loss.

“Energetic jamboree of instrumentation and talent.” — Northwest Music Scene

LYRICS

Chance

I went walking on a gravel road in your shoes
singing the blues
which way did you go
I really really want to know are you coming back?
I’m ready right now.
ooh, how I am so so done walking on the back of my knees
ooh, I’ve been waiting for some chances, chances like these.

somebody once said that you just can’t wait
or your chance never comes

I was missing all the good stuff
looking for the green grass
rolling in on empty
didn’t get enough gas
you might think I’m crazy
turning down the good life
my heart’s a dark jungle
you became the flashlight I used
oh oh like it or not.

ooh, how I am so so done walking on the back of my knees
ooh, I’ve been waiting for some chances, chances like these

somebody once said that you just can’t wait
or your chance never comes

Trouble

I’m trying I’m trying
but I’m not making a dent
i wanna ya i wanna back up
but my times been spent

day in and day out
I been digging a hole in the ground
won’t you take away away my trouble
somebody..

trouble, I feel like crying

trying’ I‘m trying
but I ain’t getting anywhere
chipping away with my chisel
until my knuckles are bare.

‘been chewing on doubt
resting uneasy and my soul wants out.
won’t you take away, away my trouble?, somebody.

I had a ring around my head
I thought it was a halo
but the devil came around instead
brought me so low
now I’m in…

trouble. I feel like crying’

I’m trying’ I’m trying’
please tell the judge that I ain’t no crook
I’m all ya I’m all locked up
made a bad decision and that all it took.
concrete and steel,
the way that i feel
the cold floor and low ceiling oh
wont you take away away my shackles? somebody.

I had a ring around my head
I thought it was a halo
but the devil came around instead
brought me so low
now I’m in..

trouble. I feel like crying
now I’m in trouble, I feel like crying
Light Of The Moon 03:57
I can tell by the way your walking things are slow.
just tell me something i don’t know
I can tell by the way you’re moving, you don’t know
If you’re ready to go
you could bring that conversation
you could bring a boat
you could bring a personal lifeguard
but its better if you learn to float

been under water twice in one day
cant seem to put these feelings away.
from the back corner of a dimly lit room
where you cant see the stars from the light of the moon

I know the stars they’re shining
but they don’t shine the way they used to do.

I can tell by the way your walking things are slow.
just tell me something i don’t know
I can tell by the way you’re moving, you don’t know
If you’re ready to go
you could bring that conversation
you could bring a boat
you could bring a personal lifeguard
but it’s better if you learn to float

and your better off doing it alone. . .

been under water twice in one day
can’t seem to put these feelings away.
from the back corner of a dimly lit room
where you cant see the stars from the light of the moon

I know the stars they’re shining
but they don’t shine the way they used to do.

Been under water twice in one day
Been under water twice in one day
Been under water twice in one day
Been under water twice in one day

now you can’t see the stars from the light of the moon
can’t see the stars from the light of the moon
now you can’t see the stars from the light of the moon
can’t see the stars from the light of the moon. . .

I know the stars they’re shining
but they don’t shine the way they used to do.

Ripple

A ripple of light
from the surface of the sea
shatters the spell of pain
it’s like we’re alive again

skeleton, remember my name
I come with the moon and the wind and the rain
don’t you, don’t you haunt my soul
I thought that I lost you years ago
daydream of Piccadilly
gotta get back some way somehow.

underwater, where i always am
underwater I made a friend
underwater where i learn to live
underwater I learn to give

a ripple of light
from the surface of the sea
shatters the spell of pain
it’s like we’re alive again

can it be true that there ain’t no more?
surrounded by film on the cutting room floor.
the love that he tasted made him wild.
It turned him into a full blown child.
satellites and radio towers too.
you know damn well what we’re gonna do.

underwater, where i always am
underwater I made a friend
underwater where i learn to live
underwater I learn to give

a ripple of light
from the surface of the sea
shatters the spell of pain
it’s like we’re alive again
Some People 04:11
I might like to visit you
but your living on an island in the sea
I’ve got no way to make that happen.
you might like to visit me
tell me about how you’re doing
but it’s a long way to St. Marguerite
I brought you my love
thought you would catch me
but I know now that I’ve got to quit
your a deep, deep bottomless pit

we can hang out
I heard that you like to hang out
we can work it out
I know some people like to work things out
but not you.

people always asking me
want to know, know how you been.
I just smile, shrug my shoulders
walk away to my chagrin
not going to hide anymore
my cover is already blown
I used to paint in color
you used to set the tone
now holy rollers and bottom trollers
can duke it out in the ring
but this here train is leaving
don’t know when I’m gonna see you again

we can hang out
I heard that you like to hang out
we can work it out
I know some people like to work things out
but not you

Pictures

there’s a rusted old van parked on top of the hill
cold glass of water helps me swallow the pill
I walked on up just to see what I might find
a faded picture of a faded friend of mine

I’ll just keep on taking pictures
that disappear
sunlight through the tempered windows
I want you here
with me, right by my side
I want you here,
honey hope you realize

There’s a red tin box buried inside of the wall
no one’s ever seen it there at all
if you opened it up here’s what you might find
a faded picture of a faded friend of mine

I’ll just keep on taking pictures
that disappear
sunlight through the tempered windows
I want you here
with me, right by my side
I want you here
honey hope you realize

I want you here
I want you here
I want you here
with me, right by my side
I want you here
honey hope you realize
I want you here
with me, right by my side
I want you here
honey hope you realize
Good Friend 04:23
I miss the days running round in the grass
and all the things we never thought would pass.
mud seeping between our toes
washing off with the cold garden hose
split wood, stacked up logs
we crumpled paper, all we heard were the frogs
sun set a red blush on your skin
I’m only thinking how we can begin to become good friends

I miss my friends and my family too
but when i think i think man, how I miss you.
I wanna live how they do on the screen
where young love just shimmers with a golden sheen
no sleep till we settle down
at two in the morning, I’ll be leaving this town
so let’s go back to the mountain tops
to the beach to the desert to the sidewalk
I’ll be there, my good friend
oh there’s a reason things work out this way
oh what it is well i just can’t say
maybe
its you, my good friend.

I miss the days running round in the grass
all those things we never thought would come to pass
my good friend
so let’s go back to the mountain tops
to the beach to the desert to the sidewalk
I’ll be there
my good friend.
oh there’s a reason things work out this way
oh what it is well i just can’t say
maybe,
its you, my good friend.

my good friend
my good friend
my good friend

Peace Of Mind

I’m gonna live like this I’m gonna live like this
I’m gonna live like this I’m gonna live like this
for the rest of my life
at least in my mind.

I’m gonna jump right in I’m gonna jump right in
I’m gonna jump right in I’m gonna jump right in
until the walls cave in, but maybe they wont.

I don’t want to die
lord but when I do
I want some peace of mind
like I want it for you too
like I want it for you too

If you’re waiting around for somebody to let you out
waiting around for somebody to let you out then
your gonna wait
all of your life

I don’t want to die
lord but when I do
I want some peace of mind
like I want it for you too
like I want it for you too

walking really fast is the trouble with me
walking really fast is the trouble you see
I’ve got a wobbly knee
but I still gotta see.

I don’t want to die
lord but when I do
I want some peace of mind
like I want it for you too
like I want it for you too
Farwell 04:12
take me to the edge of the world where the sidewalk ends
and the boats just sail right into the sky.
tell me there’s some rebar holding it together
when the earth starts shaking and the babies started to cry.
step to the crumbling cliff, kick your flops right off let the magma seap between your toes.
If you start sinking just cut off your legs, come on come on, cannonball into the sky!

then our memories fade and we’ll forget
how to talk. when we’re sick of it.
then our bodies turn to birds
and all that’s left are these parting words.

how can this be wrong?
when it feels so natural to sing this song?
where else do we belong?
I can take you anywhere, anywhere.
then our memories fade and we’ll forget
how to talk. when we’re sick of it.
then our bodies turn to birds
and all that’s left are these parting words

parting words
parting words
parting words.

Next Time

one of these days
I want to get to know you better
and in how many ways
do i have to say it
I just want to play it
on the guitar
right in the open
right where you are
nobody ever is gonna care
nobody’s gonna mind
its hard to pull yourself away
I’m only asking for some time
not too much, just a little bit

maybe next time
you’ll make some time

nobody ever is gonna care
nobody’s gonna mind
it’s hard to pull yourself away
I’m only asking for some time
not too much, just a little bit

maybe next time
you’ll make some time.

When You’re Out

take all the words you heard in a day
put em in a letter, send them away
back and forth you know we talk too much and i don’t know
what else to say.
waterfall surprises,
popping’ up like geysers
bringing it back
from the past

you might not like it
but if you don’t try how do you know?
taking a gamble
where did the money go?
When you’re out your out

lighter than a dream fireflies that are not seen
I’m a saw blade for the mill. . .
little specks of light have been appearing every night
If you can not see them that’s too bad.
well you might not like it
If you don’t try how do you know?
taking a gamble
where did the money go?
when you’re out your out

lately i feel like I jumped out of a plane
someone pulled the lever and I got my heart to blame
pointing fingers, taking stands
no telling where you’ll land
my best guess is right back on the ground

you might not like it
but if you don’t try how do you know?
taking a gamble
where did the money go?
when you’re out your out
