Holly cow, this was a project, but I’m not gonna lie, I really enjoyed it. The inputs and outputs of the tape machine are routed into a “tuchel connector” which is cool and useful if you have an awesome MCI mixing board with the same connectors on the back. However, I do not. I scoured the web for a few months to find a tuchel patch-bay to no avail so I decided to cut the connectors and terminate the ends of the snake directly to a TT patch-bay on the desk I built. I figured that would be nice because I have all the in’s and outs of my M32 mixing board punched in there as well as the various mic panels around the studio.
SO! Where to start? Verify what wires go to what pins and label them.
Thankfully I had a good chart of what wire to punch down to what terminal. That was awesome because I can just hunker down and get to work!
It took some time to do all this and I certainly couldn’t do it in one session.. but over the course of a few weeks I was able to get most of the studio patched into the patch bay.
